"Always-on" is a video portal between TVs. It's easy to set up with our Daily.co TV hardware.

  • 1.0  How always on works, with Daily.co TV
  • 2.0 Use the TV to join a meeting other than the portal
  • 3.0 Tell the TV to rejoin the portal
  • To lock your TV to the portal stream (and prevent it from joining other calls), see this page

1.0 How always on works, with Daily.co TV

  1. Plug in the device. (Make sure the TV is on the right HDMI.)
  2. After booting and a countdown, the TV autoloads the portal.

Don't do anything. Don't type or click, during the countdown:

  • After it boots, the TV shows the below countdown screen. This is a heads-up that the TV is joining the live stream.
  • The loading screen also is a chance to tell the TV to not join the portal, and join another meeting instead.
  • If you do not want your TV joining another call instead of the portal, email us. We can hide the TV screen code that lets users put the TV into a non-portal meeting link. Learn more here

Just plug in your box. It boots, and your TV then shows a countdown:

Don't type or click!
Your TV autojoins the portal, after the countdown:

2.0  Use your always on device for other video calls

Yes, you can use your always on system for other calls. Turn your computer or phone into a remote control for the TV. You then can tell the TV to leave the portal.

  • You'll use the screen code, which is shown in the lower right of your TV screen. It's in the Control TV box.
  • Have a custom link, or another specific meeting, you want to join? 👉See Section 1 on this page, 'Join a meeting on your TV'
  • Don't have another meeting link ready? The TV can take care of it. See Section 2 on that page

3.0  Put your TV back int the portal

Let's say you've used your portal for another call. Or somehow, it got into another call.

To tell the TV to rejoin the portal, you need to use the web remote control page for the TV.

Option 1:  I don't have a web controller page open. Section 2 on this help page

  • Go to https://tv.daily.co on your computer or phone
  • Enter the screen code up on the TV. See section 2 screen shots
  • Click Leave call
  • DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. Don't type. Don't click. Once you click Leave call, the TV shows a countdown and then rejoins the portal.

Option 2:  I have a web controller page open.

  • You already may have a web controller page open, from when you joined the other call. Click Leave call.
  • DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. Don't type. Don't click. Once you click Leave call, the TV shows a countdown and then rejoins the portal.

Click leave call, in your web controller

Remember:  you can prevent the TV portal from being used for other video calls. Learn how to hide the Control TV box, so the TV is locked into the live stream only.
